Coach Frimpong Manso has stated that Otto Addo will require significant support as he prepares the Black Stars for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers next year.
His remarks follow the team’s disappointing performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where they have struggled to secure points.
Currently, the Black Stars are in danger of missing out on the AFCON for the first time in 20 years, having earned just two points from their first four matches.
As the qualifiers near their conclusion, Manso has expressed doubts about the team’s chances of reaching the tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco.
However, he stressed the importance of rallying behind Otto Addo ahead of the World Cup qualifiers, which begin in March 2025.
“I know Otto Addo wants to do something for the country, but at this moment, we must support Otto Addo for the World Cup qualifiers because, at this point, we cannot qualify for the AFCON,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.
“I know people will complain if we miss out on the AFCON, but what he will need is support to do the right things and bring good players for the World Cup qualifiers,” he added.
The Black Stars’ upcoming fixtures include a match against Angola’s Palancas Negras in Luanda on November 15 at the Estádio 11 de Novembro, followed by a home game against Niger Republic on November 18 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Currently sitting third in Group F, Ghana must win both of their remaining games while hoping for losses from Sudan against Niger and Angola in order to have any chance of qualifying for the AFCON.
In the World Cup qualifiers, Ghana is currently second in Group I with 9 points and will face Chad and Madagascar in their upcoming matches.
