Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, has stated that Viktor Gyokeres, the Swedish striker currently playing for Sporting Lisbon, is not a priority for the club, despite his impressive form. Gyokeres, 26, has been in sensational goal-scoring form, netting 66 goals in 68 appearances for Sporting over the last two seasons. His performances have made him one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers, attracting the attention of several top clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal, and Manchester City.
Recent reports have also linked Bayern Munich with a move for the striker, even though they already have England captain Harry Kane in their ranks. Gyokeres has a release clause of £83 million, though it is believed Sporting could accept a lower fee, potentially around £63 million, next summer. However, Deco has made it clear that Barcelona are not looking to pursue the Swedish forward at this stage.
Deco acknowledged Gyokeres' talents, saying, "He is a good player, and he has been scoring goals consistently in Portugal. We are aware of him, like other clubs, but at the moment, he is not a priority for us." Barcelona’s main focus for the time being is securing a No.9 who can complement their current striker, Robert Lewandowski. Deco emphasized the importance of keeping Lewandowski happy and maintaining his form, hinting that Barcelona’s immediate focus is on ensuring the Polish striker stays at the club for at least another season.
Regarding potential future signings, Deco downplayed rumors linking Barcelona with a move for Erling Haaland. He noted that the club has not yet decided on their long-term striker options, and with Lewandowski already at the club, they are not currently in the market for another No.9. "We have Robert, and we are not planning anything with another striker at the moment," Deco said, signaling that such decisions will only be made when the time is right.
Despite Gyokeres’ contract at Sporting running until 2028, the club appears resigned to the fact that the striker could depart next summer. Sporting’s coach, Ruben Amorim, recently stated that while Gyokeres has been crucial to the team, the player is likely to move on at the end of the season. Amorim clarified, however, that Gyokeres is fully committed to Sporting for now and will stay with the club until then.
