Ghanaian left-back Abdul Baba Rahman recently clarified his decision regarding his international football career with the Black Stars. Rahman, who has had stints with top clubs like Chelsea and Asante Kotoko, emphasized that he has not retired from playing for Ghana but is currently taking a break to focus on his recovery. His last appearance for the national team was during a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against the Central African Republic, where his performance attracted some criticism from fans. The 30-year-old has faced persistent injuries throughout his career, and his decision is motivated by the need to regain full fitness before returning to international duty.

In a recent interview with BBC Sport Africa, Rahman explained that stepping back from international commitments is a personal choice aimed at improving his physical condition. Since joining Greek club PAOK in 2023, he has chosen to prioritize his health over international competitions to regain form. Rahman acknowledged the disappointment of fans who are eager to see him back in action for Ghana. However, he stressed that ensuring his long-term fitness is crucial, given his injury history, and hopes that the break will allow him to fully recover. His focus remains on getting back to top physical shape and enjoying his club football without the additional pressure of national duties.

Rahman remains optimistic about his future with the Black Stars and assured fans that his commitment to Ghana is unwavering. He expressed a deep appreciation for the continued support from the fan base, who frequently urge him to return. Despite the setbacks of recent years, Rahman believes that once he achieves full fitness, his international career will pick up where it left off. Until then, he is determined to concentrate on club football and ensure he is at his best before donning the national jersey again. Rahman is confident that this temporary pause will benefit both his health and his future contributions to the Black Stars.
