The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has reiterated that the Ghana Police Service remains resolute in ensuring peaceful, secure, and orderly elections. At a news conference in Accra Monday, IGP Dampare said the police are adequately prepared to ensure law and order during the elections, affirming that the efforts by the police force are deliberate and focused on sustaining peace throughout the election period.

Our commitment to peace is intentional and purposeful," IGP Dampare declared. "We understand that free and fair elections are the foundation of democracy, and we are committed to ensuring that Ghanaians can vote in an atmosphere of peace and security.

The IGP presented a detailed security arrangement that includes the deployment of more police officers at the polling stations, hotspot areas, and regions that are likely to be affected by electoral tensions. He said the police would also work closely with other security agencies, like the military, National Security, and the Electoral Commission, for better coordination of efforts and increased election security.

We have strengthened our intelligence networks to detect and respond to any threats before they escalate," IGP Dampare added. "The officers have undergone special training in crowd control, conflict resolution, and election security, ensuring that they will be prepared for whatever happens.

He emphasized his openness to cooperation with political parties, civil society organizations, and the general public. Dampare called for there not to be any activity from any stakeholder that may lead to violence and instead promote peaceful behavior within the electoral process. "The police are here to serve and protect every Ghanaian. It is crucial that we work together to uphold the integrity of this democratic process," he said.

The assurance by the IGP comes ahead of one of the most critical elections in recent times. With the election in sight, there is a glimmer of hope among the citizens that this will be a peaceful and credible election with the collaboration of security agencies, electoral bodies, and the public.
