The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has confidently assured the nation of its readiness for the upcoming December 7 elections, emphasizing that all essential election materials and equipment have been adequately distributed across the country. Chairperson of the EC, Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa, provided these updates during her final media briefing ahead of the crucial polling day.

Mrs. Mensa addressed concerns about logistical challenges, stating, “We don’t anticipate any shortage of election materials or equipment in any part of the country.” This assurance comes as the EC seeks to avoid disruptions and ensure a smooth electoral process for the 18,774,159 registered voters expected to participate, representing 55% of Ghana’s total population.

High Turnout in Special Voting

Reflecting on the recently concluded special voting exercise, Mrs. Mensa lauded its success, highlighting an impressive voter turnout. According to her, the lowest recorded turnout across polling stations was 83%, underscoring the enthusiasm of participants, including security personnel, election officials, and accredited media practitioners.

Empowering Media and Observers

To enhance transparency and accurate reporting during the elections, the EC has issued close to 10,000 accreditations to media professionals. Mrs. Mensa urged journalists to leverage their platforms responsibly by delivering factual and truthful coverage. “Rise to the task and cover elections accurately and truthfully,” she appealed, emphasizing the critical role of the media in informing the public and safeguarding democracy.

Additionally, the EC has accredited over 20,000 local and international election observers, equipping them with resources such as maps to locate polling stations effectively. Their presence aims to bolster the credibility of the electoral process by ensuring impartial oversight.

Final Preparations

The EC chairperson reiterated the Commission’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections. With all materials in place and personnel prepared, the EC is focused on delivering a seamless voting experience for all eligible participants.

As Ghana approaches one of its most significant democratic exercises, the assurance of readiness from the Electoral Commission brings a sense of confidence to voters and stakeholders.

This moment in Ghana’s electoral history promises to showcase the nation’s democratic maturity, with heightened participation and a collective effort to ensure a credible outcome. (Source: Graphic.com.gh)
