Hon. Mahama Ayariga: A Call to Action for Bawku’s Development
The people of Bawku Central have once again entrusted their future to you, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, by electing you to represent them in Parliament for another four years. Congratulations on this significant achievement! Your victory is a testament to the confidence the people of Bawku Central have in your leadership and ability to address the pressing challenges of the constituency.
However, with this renewed mandate comes a greater responsibility. As you step into the next parliamentary term, you do so as the longest-serving Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, having spent over two decades in Parliament and holding several ministerial positions during your career. This raises an important question: What will your legacy in Kusaug be after 24 years of service?
The state of Bawku is one of concern. Despite your longstanding representation, the constituency continues to grapple with numerous challenges. Basic infrastructure remains inadequate — the absence of a hospital, the deplorable state of our roads, and the alarming rate of youth unemployment are glaring issues that demand urgent attention. These are matters that extend beyond party politics; they touch the very core of our development as a community.
During your community engagements leading up to the election, the promise of creating the Kusaug Region stood out as a key pledge. You also appealed to the people of Kusaug to support the National Democratic Congress (NDC) by voting for all its Parliamentary Candidates (PCs). The people listened and delivered all six seats in the Kusaug area to the NDC. This level of support places a great responsibility on your shoulders, Hon. Ayariga, to ensure that the hopes and aspirations of the people are not dashed.
It is no secret that the expectations of your constituents go far beyond the provision of boreholes, sponsorship of naming ceremonies, or funeral donations — gestures often associated with first-time MPs. What Bawku needs now are transformational projects that will have a lasting and meaningful impact on the lives of its people. The time for tokenism has long passed.
The entire populace of Bawku voted for you, not just NDC delegates or party officials. Therefore, instead of focusing on monthly stipends for party loyalists, the focus should be on implementing developmental projects that will uplift the entire constituency. The ball is now firmly in your court, and you have an opportunity to change the face of Bawku for the better.
Time is not a luxury you can afford. Over the next four years, the people of Bawku will be watching closely. This term should mark the beginning of a new chapter for the constituency — one defined by progress, accountability, and visionary leadership. We urge you to use this mandate to lay the foundation for a legacy that future generations will remember with pride.
Hon. Ayariga, the people of Bawku have spoken. The trust they have placed in you is both a privilege and a challenge. It is our hope that you will seize this opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of the people you serve.
Best wishes as you embark on this journey to shape a brighter future for Bawku.
