Koforidua Technical University Rusticates Several Students Over Examination Malpractices

Koforidua Technical University (KTU) in the Eastern Region has taken firm action against examination malpractices, announcing the rustication of several students found guilty of violating academic integrity policies. The decision underscores the university's commitment to maintaining high academic standards and discouraging dishonest practices.

The rusticated students were reportedly caught engaging in various forms of malpractice, such as smuggling unauthorized materials into exam halls, impersonation, and receiving external assistance during exams. After thorough investigations by the university’s disciplinary committee, evidence confirmed these breaches, prompting the administration to issue rustication notices to the offending students.

The affected students will face suspension from academic activities for varying durations, depending on the severity of their offenses. This punishment serves as a strong reminder to the university community that academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. In a statement addressing the issue, KTU authorities emphasized that their goal is to uphold academic integrity and create a fair environment for all students.

A senior official at the university noted, “Examination malpractice undermines the core values of education. We are determined to eliminate any form of dishonesty to protect the credibility of our certificates and the hard work of our honest students.”

Students on campus have expressed mixed reactions to the rustications. While some believe the punishment is justified and necessary, others argue that the measures are too harsh. A final-year student commented, “It’s unfortunate, but if we want a fair academic environment, strict action must be taken against those who break the rules.”

This recent disciplinary action has sparked discussions on the importance of ethical conduct during examinations. KTU has vowed to intensify its efforts to prevent future incidents by implementing stricter monitoring procedures, enhancing surveillance during exams, and conducting awareness campaigns about academic integrity.

Parents and stakeholders have also weighed in on the matter, with many supporting the university’s decision as a necessary step toward ensuring quality education. However, some have called for a review of examination policies to address underlying issues that may tempt students to engage in malpractice.

As the university community grapples with the impact of these rustications, the administration hopes this action will deter others from attempting similar acts in the future. KTU’s stand serves as a warning to students across Ghana that academic dishonesty carries serious consequences.
