Bashir Hayford, the head coach of Heart of Lions, has confidently asserted that leading his team to the top of the Ghana Premier League (GHPL) is simply part of his job. After a narrow 1-0 victory against FC Samartex, the Kpando-based side has climbed to the top of the league standings for the 2024/25 season with 24 points from 13 matches. Hayford, who was recently named the Premier League’s Coach of the Month for November, emphasized that winning and achieving good results is not a surprise to him. "As a coach, it’s my responsibility to ensure the team performs well and wins games. I don’t find it surprising that we are leading the league. This is what I’m here to do," he said during an interview on Asempa FM’s Sports Nite.

Heart of Lions’ recent success can be attributed to Hayford’s tactical approach and his ability to keep the players focused and motivated. The win against FC Samartex highlighted the effectiveness of his strategies, particularly in tight matches. As they prepare to host Basake Holy Stars in their upcoming Matchday 14 game at the Kpando Sports Stadium, Hayford is focused on maintaining this momentum. "It’s about keeping our form and not letting complacency creep in," he noted, stressing the importance of continued effort to stay at the top of the league table. The team’s upcoming fixture is crucial as they look to secure their lead and strengthen their position as title contenders in the league.

Hayford’s leadership has been pivotal for Heart of Lions this season. His ability to adapt and make necessary changes to the team’s approach has been a significant factor in their rise to the top. As they face Basake Holy Stars, he is focused on further refining his team’s tactics to ensure they remain competitive. "Every game is an opportunity to prove ourselves," he said. "We need to maintain our intensity and discipline if we want to stay ahead in the league." With the confidence of his players and the support of the club’s management, Hayford is optimistic about the rest of the season and is determined to guide Heart of Lions to a successful campaign.
