Kwesi Nyantakyi, the former president of the GFA, denies accusations that Black Stars are being spiritually undermined.
Kwesi Nyantakyi, the former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has denied being the cause of the Black Stars' subpar play.
His response comes after a contentious assertion made by Prophet Samuel Agyarkwah, who is lovingly known as AkwankyerÉ. Papa claimed that Mr. Nyantakyi is behind the spiritual assault on football in the West African nation.
According to the prophet, to ensure his legacy and keep his successors from succeeding, the former president allegedly tied Ghana football spiritually in the Northern Region.
"The reality is that spiritual attacks have led to Ghana Football's demise. A well-liked former GFA President is tying the score for Ghanaian football in the Northern Region. According to Ghanasportspage, he stated on Mothers FM/TV, "The reason is to hinder his successors from shining so that he will be remembered forever."
But in an interview with Joy Sports, Mr. Nyantakyi called these allegations "ludicrous and unfounded."
"I am not the owner of the Black Stars; Ghanaians own the team. How can I use spiritual manipulation to make the squad fail? stated the former first vice president of CAF.
"Ghanian football, not the Black Stars, had me as its president."When we introduced our football policy in Cape Coast in 2006, it was a thorough blueprint for the whole growth of Ghanaian football.
"Among other things, we continuously updated and put into effect policies for player and referee development, marketing, youth and women's football, and governance. Did that only apply to the Black Stars?
"As recently as October 2017, we held a three-day summit in Cape Coast to involve stakeholders and examine how we can manage football most effectively for the benefit of all Ghanaians. Was Black Stars the sole topic?
He also chastised so-called prophets for using football as a means of achieving their own ends."A lot of these so-called prophets use football's popularity as a means of achieving renown. To get people's attention, they sell hogwash," Nyantakyi said.
To help Ghanaian football advance, the former GFA President further reiterated his readiness to give his knowledge and perspectives whenever asked.
"Why would I ruin something that makes Ghanaians happy just because I am not in charge anymore? Is that power even mine? I celebrate just like any other Ghanaian when the team wins and I feel sad when it loses a match.
"Ghanaians should treat these unfounded charges with the disdain they deserve. I have contributed to the growth of football and my time there was never intended to be permanent," he stated.
"Without Sepp Blatter, FIFA has advanced, and CAF is flourishing without Issa Hayatou. Without me, why can not Ghanaian football accomplish the same? I am not to blame for the Black Stars' present difficulties. Nyantakyi urged Ghanaians to focus on building the future of football and cited global instances of advancements after leadership changes. "It is a figment of someone's imagination and it should not be attributed to me," he said.
