The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of the provisional results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). This update, made public on December 30, 2024, confirms that candidates and school authorities can now access the results online. WAEC has assured school heads that they will receive login credentials to check their students' results, while individual candidates can view their scores through the official WAEC portal at www.waecgh.org. Additionally, the council has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the security of results and warned stakeholders against fraudsters claiming to offer upgrades for a fee. WAEC emphasized that results are verifiable through its secured QR code system, designed to maintain integrity and transparency in the process.
In addressing irregularities, WAEC disclosed that significant sanctions have been imposed following various cases of malpractice. The subject results of 4,108 candidates were canceled for bringing unauthorized materials like textbooks and prepared notes into the examination halls. Similarly, the entire results of 483 candidates were annulled for using mobile phones during exams. Furthermore, the council withheld the results of 209 candidates for other alleged offenses, while suspected collusion among candidates from 319 schools is still under investigation. WAEC is determined to uphold its standards by ensuring fairness and deterring future malpractice. These measures underscore the council’s zero-tolerance policy for actions that compromise the examination’s credibility.
The 2024 WASSCE saw a total of 460,611 candidates from 1,003 schools participating, representing a 2.66% increase from the 448,674 candidates in 2023. The gender breakdown included 212,954 males and 247,657 females, with 4,609 candidates absent from the examination. Despite logistical challenges stemming from government debt, WAEC managed to release the results after receiving GH₵85 million out of the GH₵118 million owed. This partial payment eased operational delays and allowed WAEC to fulfill its obligations. Candidates are advised to check their results only through official channels and to be vigilant against scams. The council remains committed to delivering credible results while addressing issues of malpractice and ensuring a seamless process for all stakeholders.
