Kwesi Appiah, the head of sporting affairs at Asante Kotoko, has made a passionate plea to the team to win the Ghana Premier League (GPL) title as a tribute to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the club's life patron. Otumfuo has been the key financier of the club since the 2023/24 season, and Appiah believes that winning the league title would be a fitting way to repay his investment.
Kotoko has had a mixed start to the 2024/25 season, but they have bounced back strongly in recent games, winning four of their last five matches and drawing one. With 28 points, they currently sit in fifth place on the league table. Appiah is confident that the team has the quality and depth to win the title and secure qualification for African competitions.
"I believe the coach knows he must do everything he can to ensure we go to Africa next season," Appiah said in an interview with Akoma FM. "Looking at the players we have now and the investment the King is making, it would be an honour to win the league and qualify for Africa next season to make him happy."
Appiah emphasized the importance of rewarding Otumfuo's investment and commitment to the club. "So far, we are playing very well, and by God's help, I feel that if we continue fighting, we will automatically win the GPL title," he added.
Kotoko last won the GPL title in the 2021/22 season under Nana Yaw Amponsah. The team will be looking to maintain their resurgence when they face Vision FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in the final round of games before the season's first half concludes.
Appiah's call to action is a rallying cry for the team to come together and deliver a championship-winning performance. With Otumfuo's backing and the team's recent form, Kotoko is well-positioned to make a strong push for the title. Winning the GPL would not only bring joy to the fans but also serve as a fitting tribute to Otumfuo's investment and commitment to the club.
