Okatakyie Afrifa Comments on the Whereabouts of Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta

Ghanaian journalist and former Angel FM presenter, Okatakyie Afrifa, has shared his observations about Ken Ofori-Atta, the former Finance Minister of Ghana.

In a recent Facebook post, Afrifa pointed out that he has not seen any recent updates or public appearances by Ofori-Atta online. He speculated that the former minister might have intentionally withdrawn from public life following the end of his tenure under former President Nana Akufo-Addo. Afrifa noted that Ofori-Atta, who was once recognized for frequently donning white attire, appears to have left a noticeable absence, as no one in Ghana currently maintains such a consistent fashion statement.

Ken Ofori-Atta served as Ghana’s Finance Minister from 2017 to 2024, during which he played a central role in shaping the country’s economic policies. Appointed by then-President Nana Akufo-Addo, Ofori-Atta spearheaded initiatives aimed at economic stability, including the introduction of the contentious Electronic Levy (E-Levy), intended to increase government revenue. Additionally, he was pivotal in securing international loans and managing Ghana’s engagements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Despite his contributions, Ofori-Atta’s time in office was marred by criticism. Many Ghanaians and political analysts pointed to the growing national debt and economic hardships as signs of ineffective policy-making. Public discontent escalated during his later years as Finance Minister, with increasing calls for his resignation. Ultimately, his tenure ended amidst widespread dissatisfaction and mounting political pressure.

Since leaving office, Ofori-Atta has remained largely out of the public eye, avoiding both the political arena and digital platforms. This absence has led to speculation about his current activities and intentions. Nevertheless, his tenure as Finance Minister continues to be a focal point in discussions about Ghana’s economic and political trajectory.

While Ken Ofori-Atta’s influence remains a subject of debate, his silence has added a layer of mystery to his legacy. For some, his contributions to Ghana’s economic framework cannot be overlooked, while others focus on the controversies and challenges that defined his time in office. Regardless, his name remains firmly etched in Ghana’s recent history.
