Newly Appointed Upper East Regional Minister Spotted Spraying Cash To His Supporters

The newly appointed Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, was recently seen in a viral video distributing cash to his supporters on the streets of Bolgatanga during his welcome ceremony. What was initially an event to formally introduce him to the people quickly turned into a lively celebration as he handed out money to the enthusiastic crowd.

The act has sparked mixed reactions among the public. While some view it as a generous gesture to show appreciation for his supporters, others question whether such actions align with principles of transparency and good governance. Concerns have been raised about whether this undermines efforts to promote accountability and responsible leadership in Ghana.

Responding to the development, the Executive Editor of Global InfoAnalytics noted that this presents President John Mahama with his first major challenge in office. He recalled that in previous instances, individuals involved in similar activities were investigated by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). In a Facebook post, he wondered whether the new administration would address the situation with the same level of scrutiny.

The practice of politicians publicly spraying money has long been a controversial issue in Ghana. Many critics argue that it encourages the commercialization of politics and raises questions about the source of such funds. In the past, some politicians who engaged in similar acts faced investigations and legal consequences.

With the video widely circulating, many Ghanaians are eager to see whether authorities will take any action. However, supporters of Donatus Akamugri Atanga defend his actions, insisting that he was merely expressing gratitude and celebrating with his constituents.

As the debate intensifies, the coming days will likely bring further discussions on the matter, with many awaiting the government’s official response.
