Bechem United Offers GHC100,000 Bounty for Arrest of Kotoko Fan’s Killer

Bechem United, a Premier League club in Ghana, has announced a GHC100,000 bounty for any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect responsible for the death of Asante Kotoko fan, Francis Yaw Frimpong, also known as "Nana Pooley." The tragic incident occurred at Nana Kronmansah Park during a heated Matchday 19 encounter between Nsoatreman FC and Kotoko. Pooley was fatally stabbed, and the suspect, identified as Brimah, has since gone into hiding. Asante Kotoko’s Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, revealed the suspect's identity, and the Ghana Police Service is actively pursuing him. In response to the violence, Bechem United has taken a firm stand against hooliganism by offering a substantial reward to encourage the public to assist in locating the suspect.

Following this shocking event, the Ghana Premier League has been temporarily suspended to allow authorities to address the security concerns surrounding the sport. However, the FA Cup Round of 16 fixtures will proceed as scheduled, despite the tragic loss. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is also taking steps to ensure justice is served, with GFA President Kurt Okraku set to visit Asante Kotoko to express solidarity and discuss necessary actions moving forward. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from football stakeholders, who are calling for stricter security measures at match venues to prevent future occurrences. Clubs and officials are under pressure to implement reforms that will safeguard the safety of fans and players alike.

The tragedy has once again highlighted the persistent issue of violence in Ghanaian football, raising concerns over fan safety at stadiums. Bechem United’s decision to offer a financial reward underscores the urgent need to address hooliganism and ensure perpetrators are held accountable. The football community continues to mourn the loss of Pooley, with tributes pouring in from supporters and officials across the country. As investigations intensify, authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in bringing the suspect to justice. This case serves as a wake-up call for Ghanaian football, emphasizing the importance of maintaining discipline and ensuring that stadiums remain safe spaces for passionate fans to enjoy the game.
