Former Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has urged Ghanaians to exercise patience in assessing President John Mahama’s administration, arguing that it is premature to make definitive judgments on his economic policies. Speaking on Adom TV’s *M’ashyase3*, the Ofoase-Ayirebi MP noted that every government typically sets its targets within the first 100 to 120 days, and Mahama’s approach is not significantly different from previous administrations. He pointed out that while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) once earned public approval through tax reductions and other initiatives, the true test of any administration lies in how it handles economic challenges over time. According to him, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has introduced some initiatives, but their ability to respond to future economic difficulties will determine their success. Additionally, he acknowledged public concerns regarding the withdrawal of high-profile cases and the appointment of individuals associated with these cases into key government positions. He stated that it would have been preferable for those individuals to clear their names in court, as this would have avoided public criticism. Nevertheless, he maintained that it is still too early to draw conclusions about the government’s performance.

Beyond economic concerns, Oppong Nkrumah’s remarks reflect broader political discussions surrounding Mahama’s governance. While some have criticized the administration’s decisions, including ministerial appointments, he believes Ghanaians should allow more time before forming concrete opinions. He also emphasized that public scrutiny is expected in governance but noted that governments should be judged not only by their initial policies but also by their ability to handle inevitable challenges. The discussion around Mahama’s leadership comes amid wider national debates, such as the push for economic recovery strategies and concerns about judicial accountability. Meanwhile, other political and economic developments continue to unfold, including discussions on the government’s commitment to gender equality and efforts to revive key sectors such as oil refining. As Ghana navigates these issues, many political observers believe that the effectiveness of Mahama’s administration will become clearer in the coming months, particularly as economic policies take effect and the government faces both internal and external pressures.
