Jah Lead Threatens JMJ Over Copyright Dispute

Ghanaian reggae and dancehall artist Jah Lead has rekindled his feud with music producer JMJ, accusing him of blocking his song from streaming platforms and withholding financial proceeds. Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, Jah Lead claimed that his song from JMJ’s Riddim of the Gods project was unfairly removed from his Audiomack account. He explained that although he wrote and performed the song, JMJ, who produced the beat, had it taken down. “A song I wrote, by virtue of him playing the beats, has been blocked on my Audiomack. The rightful owner or the copyright owner of the song has authorized it to be blocked,” Jah Lead lamented.

He further alleged that JMJ had uploaded the same track on his platforms, promoted it, and later reported Jah Lead’s version to YouTube, leading to its removal. Jah Lead claimed that after conducting his own investigations, he discovered that JMJ had pitched the song—along with others from the album—to Boomplay and had collected revenue without his involvement. According to him, his version of Lonely had gained more streams, yet JMJ took control of the financial proceeds. Frustrated by what he considers unfair treatment, Jah Lead expressed his dissatisfaction over JMJ’s refusal to communicate with him to resolve the matter. “I think he’s become more egoistic, not responding to communication,” he stated.

Jah Lead went further to issue a stern warning, making it clear that he intends to confront JMJ physically. “He should dare not think he’s older than me because he’s my age mate. That’s why I’ll talk to him like my age mate. I told him when the time comes, I’ll meet him on the street and beat him mercilessly,” he threatened. He emphasized that he wants the public to be aware of the confrontation when it happens. Meanwhile, despite the ongoing controversy, Jah Lead has released a new song titled Hand of Jah, which he says allows him to express himself freely. The dispute over Lonely stems from Riddim of the Gods, a project released by JMJ in 2020. While JMJ has yet to respond to the allegations, industry observers are closely monitoring the situation, as it raises questions about copyright ownership, revenue-sharing practices, and transparency in Ghana’s music industry.
