Mike Oquaye Jnr Rejects Claims of Disrespect and Stresses Commitment to Party Unity
Mike Oquaye Jnr, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Dome-Kwabenya in the 2024 elections, has strongly refuted allegations of being disrespectful, labeling them as baseless attacks on his character. He denied ever insulting anyone’s father, emphasizing that such actions contradict his values and upbringing. Oquaye Jnr pointed out that he comes from a farming background, with his paternal grandfather being a farmer and himself engaging in part-time farming, making it unlikely that he would ever look down on others. According to him, he was raised to respect people and avoid insults, a principle he has upheld throughout his life. Additionally, he dismissed accusations that he had disregarded key political figures, including former President Nana Akufo-Addo and the Chief of Staff. However, another contender refused to engage with him despite his persistent efforts. He recounted how, after three weeks of trying to establish contact, he was informed by the opponent’s special assistant that she was unwilling to communicate with him. Despite this, Oquaye Jnr remains committed to fostering party cohesion, emphasizing that internal unity is key to achieving victory in the upcoming elections. He stressed that while political competition is natural, it should not lead to permanent rifts among party members, especially when they share the common goal of serving the people. His efforts demonstrate his dedication to promoting teamwork and ensuring that the NPP remains a formidable political force in the constituency.
Reaffirming his loyalty to the NPP, Oquaye Jnr stated that he would remain patient as the party leadership decides on the best course of action to address these internal tensions.
