Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has emphasized that the challenges hindering sports development in Ghana can be effectively tackled through deliberate and strategic leadership. Speaking as a guest at the JoySports National Dialogue, he pointed out that the nation possesses the intellectual capacity and talent necessary to implement meaningful reforms. However, the major obstacle remains the collective will to move beyond discussions and take decisive action. According to Ampofo Ankrah, Ghana has all the expertise needed to advance its sports sector, but without strong leadership that is committed to making difficult decisions, progress will be limited. He believes that an intentional and disciplined approach to governance is essential for overcoming longstanding challenges in the sports industry.

During the dialogue, he also shared that the National Sports Authority is committed to following a structured government roadmap to enhance sports development. This roadmap, according to him, offers a clear blueprint for growth, ensuring that stakeholders can track progress and measure success effectively. He stressed that if the roadmap is followed diligently, it will provide a clear sense of direction for sports administration in Ghana, allowing the country to optimize its resources and create a sustainable sports ecosystem. By adhering to this structured plan, the NSA hopes to address key issues such as funding, infrastructure, and policy execution, which have long hindered the advancement of Ghanaian sports. Ampofo Ankrah’s statement highlights the importance of accountability and commitment in turning policies into real, lasting improvements.

The discussion at the JoySports National Dialogue underscores the urgency of sports reforms and the need for leaders to take responsibility in implementing necessary changes. Without intentional leadership, policies and plans may remain theoretical rather than being put into action. The NSA boss’s remarks reinforce the idea that Ghana’s sports sector requires not just vision but also the determination to follow through on plans that will yield tangible results. The event served as a platform to bring key stakeholders together to discuss governance and how to overcome existing challenges in the sports industry. By working collaboratively and committing to a long-term strategy, Ampofo Ankrah believes that Ghana can unlock its full potential in sports development, ensuring that future generations benefit from a well-structured and thriving sports sector.
