Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, the founder of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), has announced his intention to contest for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) municipality in the 2024 elections. This declaration follows widespread speculation about whether he would run for the presidency in the upcoming December polls. Dr. Nduom took to Facebook on January 11 to clarify his political ambitions, stating that he is more interested in serving at the municipal level rather than pursuing the highest office in the country. He explained that his goal is to bring about tangible improvements in the local community by enhancing infrastructure, creating jobs, expanding access to education, and improving healthcare services. He emphasized that he wants to demonstrate practical leadership by managing the municipality efficiently and ensuring that citizens benefit from effective governance. Dr. Nduom reassured his supporters that his decision is not a retreat from national politics but rather a strategic move to effect real change at a grassroots level.

Dr. Nduom’s political journey has been marked by various leadership roles and presidential aspirations. He served as a Member of Parliament for Komenda from 2005 to 2009 under the Convention People’s Party (CPP). In 2008, he contested the presidency but was unsuccessful. Subsequently, in 2012, he broke away from the CPP and established the PPP, through which he ran for president in both the 2012 and 2016 elections. However, in the 2020 elections, Brigitte Dzogbenuku represented the PPP as the presidential candidate, and Dr. Nduom took a step back from frontline politics. His absence from national political discussions in recent years led to speculation about his future aspirations. By choosing to contest for the KEEA CEO position, he aims to apply his experience in governance and business management to develop the local economy, foster sustainable growth, and address pressing challenges facing the people of the municipality. His decision signifies a shift in his political approach, prioritizing direct community impact over broader national ambitions.

Beyond his political career, Dr. Nduom has consistently advocated for development-driven leadership and practical solutions to Ghana’s socio-economic challenges. His decision to contest for the KEEA CEO role aligns with his vision of grassroots empowerment and localized governance. He has called on the electorate to focus on leadership that prioritizes service delivery rather than mere political rhetoric. Dr. Nduom’s campaign is expected to emphasize policies that will drive economic transformation, environmental cleanliness, and improved social services in the municipality. His return to active politics at the municipal level highlights his belief that leadership should be centered on measurable outcomes and community progress. As the election approaches, his bid will likely spark discussions on whether experienced national leaders should shift their focus to local governance for more direct impact. Ultimately, his decision challenges the conventional political trajectory, demonstrating that meaningful leadership is not solely confined to national positions but can be effectively executed at the grassroots level to improve the lives of ordinary citizens.
