The remuneration of the military in Ghana is hierarchical, in line with experience and responsibility required at each grade. The fresh recruits are reportedly remunerated between 1,000 to 1,500 Ghanaian Cedis (GHC) per month. The experienced men, as they go up in rank, get better pay.

The enlisted personnel, depending on their respective grades, can earn up to 3,000 GHC per month. Junior officers start with remuneration ranges from between 3,500 to 4,000 GHC per month.

Even higher ranking officers get even greater compensation. Occupations such as Colonels and Brigadier Generals make quite a bit more, while the highest ranking officers such as Generals are around estimated to make 9,000 GHC a month.

Exact pay levels are usually not released, however, and might change annually based on what the government allocates in the annual budget.

In addition to the basic salaries, Ghana Armed Forces personnel have a number of benefits.

These include housing allowances, medical benefits, as well as hazard pay for deployment into combat areas or for being deployed in foreign peacekeeping missions.

They also receive uniform allowances, transport allowances, and subsistence allowances during service.

Aside from monetary rewards, the Ghanaian armed forces has several non-financial incentives.

Among these are career development programs, training in professional skills, and professional growth opportunities all geared towards developing career progress and combat preparedness.

Even with information at hand, precise salary information is not disclosed, and amounts may fluctuate in accord with shifts in government policies and the militaries' internal accounting.

This system ensures that military life is a viable and appealing career, paying homage to commitment and promotion through the ranks.

It also shows the Ghanaian government's commitment to backing its armed forces in every way, both financially and professionally.

We as Ghanaians hope Mahama will do an increase on their salary moreso on the allowance because it will boost our economy.
