The Chairman for Ambassadors for Christ Council in Techiman, in the Bono East Region, Apostle Ameyaw Mark, has evoked President John Dramani Mahama to also give utmost urgency to the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill as he did to betting tax, and the e-levy.

The clergy in an exclusive interview on Fabea FM's "Me Man Ho Dadwen" with Apiah-Kubi, stressed that he recalled President John Dramani Mahama's promised to give a level of priority as a pressing national issue to assent to the anti-LGBTQ bill as the LGBTQ+ is against the country's culture and norms.

"President John Dramani Mahama when in opposition criticised Akufo-Addo for not signing the bill, stating that if he was in power, he would have signed it a long time, so we are in acquaint on him to assent the bill", Apostle Ameyaw stated.

The Ghanaian anti-LGBT bill (formally the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill) is a proposed law in Ghana that would introduce wide-ranging restrictions on LGBTQ rights. The bill was approved by the Parliament of Ghana on 28 February 2024 with bipartisan support and would only have come into effect if signed into law by the President  Akufo-Addo at the time of the bill's passage, since succeeded as President by John Dramani Mahama. The bill lapsed with the dissolution of Ghana's parliament prior to the 2024 Ghanaian general election. In March 2025, a group of 10 MPs reintroduced it as a private member's bill, which must begin the parliamentary process again from the start; President John Dramani Mahama said that while he supported the principle of the legislation, he would prefer it to be introduced as a government bill rather as a private member's bill.

Apostle Ameyaw urged President John Dramani Mahama to take a swift action and support the bill to criminalise the LGBTQ+ activities in Ghana.

A group of 10 MPs in Ghana have resubmitted the controversial bill that would impose some of the toughest restrictions on LGBT rights in Africa.

The bill prescribes a three-year jail term for people who identify as gay, and five to 10 years for promoters and advocates.

As the bill's journey has marked by challenges and controversies, the Apostle's stance pivoted on an act against God's glance of human relationships.

"I am waiting for the president to sign the bill as soon as possible as he did to the betting Tax and e-levy, if not, I may consider it as he has an interest in the LGBTQ+ act", he expressed.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has expressed his anti-LGBTQ+ stance, stating that gay marriage and being transgender are against his Christian beliefs.
