Ivan Rakitic, a former midfielder for Barcelona, has made some interesting remarks regarding Raphinha's recent meltdown following the draw with Betis. The Brazilian appeared to resist attempts by Hansi Flick and Marc-Andre ter Stegen to calm him down, despite being enraged by the outcome. Raphinha's actions, in Rakitic's opinion, will not have gone over well with the Barca stopper. According to what he shared with COPE, "I would have liked to see what happened in the locker room, because knowing Marc, the argument continued off camera." This week, Ter Stegen said that he and Lionel Messi didn't always get along at Barcelona. Rakitic's words show that the goalkeeper is not afraid to get in a fight. Rakitic also hailed Gavi after the midfielder hit out at his critics for “not having a f***ing club” ahead of the win over Dortmund.
"I adore Gavi. I’m especially a fan of guys with a lot of character and a very clear opinion. That already reveals a great deal about their mental toughness," he continued. Despite the drama, Rakitic was quick to downplay the situation, assuring that any tension would have been resolved quickly.
He went on to say, "I'm sure the two of them came to an agreement for the good of the team," emphasizing the significance of teamwork in such a stressful setting. Meanwhile, Rakitic was cautious not to overlook the unpredictability of the UEFA Champions League, referencing Real Madrid’s recent struggles as a reminder of how quickly fortunes can change in football.
He said, "We already saw what happened with Real Madrid," a subtle reminder that anything can happen in the Champions League knockout rounds. Last but not least, Rakitic commented on Fermin Lopez's position in the starting lineup, describing it as "interesting" and implying that Barcelona's tactical adaptability was something to keep an eye on as the match neared. Following his comments, Barcelona went on to dismantle Borussia Dortmund 4-0, with goals coming from Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski (brace) and Lamine Yamal.
