After Eddie Howe was admitted to the hospital last week, Newcastle United has provided an update on his condition. Howe will miss this week's games against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa due to pneumonia, which the club has confirmed. "I look forward to being back as soon as possible," Howe stated. The Premier League ranks the Magpies fourth. Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones led Newcastle to a 4-1 win over The Red Devils, and they will be in charge for the matches with Palace on Wednesday and Villa on Saturday.
Howe provided an update on his condition while he was still in the hospital. He stated, "A huge thank you to everyone connected with Newcastle United and the wider football community for your warm wishes and messages." "They have meant a lot to me and my family.
"I also want to thank our amazing NHS and the hospital staff for taking care of me. I'm immensely grateful for the specialist care I'm receiving and, after a period of recovery, I look forward to being back as soon as possible."
The statement added: "Medical staff kept Eddie in hospital overnight for further tests, which are ongoing. He is conscious and talking with his family, and is continuing to receive expert medical care.
"Everyone at Newcastle United extends their best wishes to Eddie for a speedy recovery, and further updates will follow in due course."
The club stated that "supported by the club's first team staff" will be assistant head coaches Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones, who will lead the team in Sunday's match against Man Utd. So far this season, Howe has led his side into UEFA Champions League contention, with Newcastle sitting seventh in the Premier League table ahead of Sunday's clash at St James' Park.
Howe was quoted in the statement as saying, “A huge thank you to everyone connected with Newcastle United and the wider football community for your messages and warm wishes. They have greatly impacted my family and me. Tindall and assistant coach Graeme Jones will continue to take charge for Newcastle’s fixtures against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa on Wednesday and Saturday this week, the club confirmed. It added that further updates on Howe’s condition and return would be communicated “in due course”.
Howe has managed Newcastle since November 2021 and guided them to a memorable victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup at Wembley last month to end their 70-year domestic trophy drought. As they fight for a Champions League spot, the Magpies are currently fourth in the Premier League.
