Tension gripped residents of Asankragua in Ghana’s Western Region when an attempted robbery took an unexpected turn involving a dramatic chase through the bushes and a muddy pit. The police have confirmed the arrest of two suspects who are currently assisting with investigations. Identified as Mohammed Abdul-Salam, aged 28, and Karim Yakubu, aged 42, the two were apprehended after an intense manhunt that unfolded in the early hours of April 17.

According to a statement released by the police, the suspects were initially spotted by a patrol team while hiding in a bush along a roadside in Asankragua. The officers’ instincts kicked in immediately as the pair's suspicious behaviour drew attention. When the suspects realised they had been seen, they took to their heels in a desperate bid to escape justice. But the police team, determined and alert, launched a hot pursuit that led them into an abandoned mining site.

In a last-ditch effort to evade capture, the suspects leapt into a muddy pit, risking their safety to escape the law. But fate had other plans. The police acted swiftly and managed to rescue the two from the muddy trap before placing them under arrest. Their muddy, defeated appearance symbolised more than just a failed escape — it told a story of law enforcement readiness and commitment to fighting crime in the region.

The search conducted during their arrest yielded some telling items. Officers recovered a shotgun, three AAA cartridges, and a basic Nokia keypad mobile phone, pointing to possible criminal intentions and potential prior activities. These findings are now key to the ongoing investigation and could lead to further revelations.

The attempted robbery and the suspects’ daring escape effort have sparked conversations about rising vigilance among local police units. The officers’ quick response and successful capture of the suspects have drawn praise from many in the community, reinforcing public trust in the security services. While full details of their alleged plans remain under wraps as investigations continue, the recovered weapons and suspicious behaviour paint a worrying picture.

Residents of Asankragua remain on alert but are encouraged by the swift and professional manner in which the police handled the situation. The case also adds to a string of recent security operations in the Western Region that have led to the arrest of various criminal elements, showing clear signs of improvement in crime-fighting tactics.

For now, Mohammed Abdul-Salam and Karim Yakubu remain in custody as police dig deeper into their activities. Authorities have assured the public that thorough investigations will be conducted to ensure justice is served and peace in Asankragua is maintained. The gripping drama, from the roadside bush to the muddy pit, may well go down as one of the most unusual arrest stories in the town’s recent memory.
