Four Manchester United players will be released to make place for Wolves' £62 million sensation Matheus Cunha.
Manchester United are trying to conclude a deal this summer to sign Wolves and Brazil forward Matheus Cunha, but certain exits may need to happen before that.
Marcus Rashford is one of four players Manchester United wants to move to make room for Matheus Cunha. The Wolves star has been identified as a key signing for Ruben Amorim's side as they look to improve their goalscoring record.
The Red Devils are hoping to reach an agreement on personal terms with the Brazilian forward after speaking with his representative. If that happens, they will then undertake talks with Wolves to determine how to pay the £62 million release clause built into his contract with the Midlands club.
United will need to clear some roster space in order to acquire Cunha, and some prospective transactions have already been identified. The first players to be released are a slew of loanees.
Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are now on loan with Aston Villa and Chelsea, respectively. Villa have a £40 million option to acquire the former, while Chelsea's duty to permanently sign Sancho has already been activated - though the Blues can still opt out by paying a £5 million penalty fee. United executives hope to recuperate a total of £65 million by selling the pair.
Antony is now impressing with Real Betis, and it is hoped that the Spanish club would pursue a permanent transfer - but United will have to pay a high price for the former Ajax winger. Tyrell Malacia, a defender for PSV Eindhoven, appears to have little future at Old Trafford.
If those four are sold, it will pay for Cunha while also alleviating some of the club's PSR concerns, allowing them more wiggle room in the summer transfer market.
Cuha, 25, has starred for Wolves this season, scoring 14 league goals as they secure Premier League safety. And it is apparent that United manager Ruben Amorim is a huge fan. Following his team's defeat to Wolves over the weekend, the Portuguese head coach stated: "(Vitor Pereira) has real quality players - Cunha and all these guys, they have real quality. They are fresh. I merely cited the example because I remembered Matheus, who scores a lot of goals. "Just that."
