A youth group in Lagos has raised N5 million in support of the political ambition of the son of Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa. The donation was made to back the younger Obasa’s bid in the upcoming Local Government (LG) elections, marking a significant show of support for his candidacy.

The event, which took place in Lagos, saw prominent members of the group, along with several supporters from various communities, gather to contribute towards the campaign fund of the Obasa scion. The youth group, which has been a vocal advocate for increased youth participation in politics, expressed strong confidence in the younger Obasa’s ability to deliver for the people, particularly in the areas of youth development and governance.

“We believe that the younger generation must take active roles in shaping the future of our communities, and with the leadership qualities of Obasa’s son, we are confident he will bring positive change to our local government,” said the spokesperson for the youth group during the fundraising event.

The funds raised are expected to go towards various aspects of the campaign, including outreach programs, rallies, and grassroots mobilization as the candidate looks to build a broad support base ahead of the elections. The youth group also announced plans to organize town hall meetings and community engagements to further promote the candidate's vision and garner more support from Lagos residents.

Mudashiru Obasa, the current Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, is one of the most influential political figures in the state. His son’s entry into the political arena has sparked a lot of interest and debate, with some critics accusing the family of dynastic politics, while others view it as an opportunity to continue the Obasa legacy of leadership and governance.

While the younger Obasa has yet to formally announce his candidacy, the N5 million raised by the youth group signals growing enthusiasm for his potential run. Observers suggest that his candidacy could play a key role in shaping the outcome of the local elections, with the support of his father’s political network likely to give him a significant edge.

As Lagos prepares for the next round of LG elections, the younger Obasa’s political future appears to be one to watch, with both praise and criticism surrounding his candidacy.
