Victor Osimhen found the net three times in Galatasaray win against Sivasspor, though one was ruled out.He bagged a brace however in their 4-1 win.
Of course, it’s becoming a regular occurrence to say Galatasaray wins. But what’s even more consistent is Victor Osimhen scoring. In fact, the Nigerian striker has just surpassed his highest season scoring record of 31 goals by netting a brace today. It could have been a hat-trick if his third goal hadn’t been canceled — and if Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk hadn’t rushed to substitute him.
Though you can’t really blame the coach. Osimhen had been roughly tackled just minutes before he was taken off, and he’s also been playing on the edge with his card count. One more yellow would mean suspension, so for the past few weeks, Osimhen hasn’t been completing the full 90 minutes in league matches. Not that most key players like Lemina, Sanchez, and Torreira have either.
In today’s match, Galatasaray opened the scoring in the 9th minute. Lucas Torreira found the net after a blocked shot by Osimhen, but honestly, the credit should go to Eren Elmalı for his brilliant pass to Osimhen. Eren truly deserved an assist there.
Eren also played a key role in the second goal, which Osimhen scored in the 15th minute. Unfortunately, the former Trabzonspor defender had to be taken off in the 25th minute due to injury. Hopefully, it’s not serious — he’s been a solid solution to Galatasaray’s long-standing left-back problem. Ismail Jakobs, originally a right-back, replaced him, while winger Roland Sallai surprisingly started as a right-back and delivered a great performance. Galatasaray really looked like they were in championship mode.
Back to the match — Barış Alper Yılmaz added a third in the 21st minute. This goal meant a lot to Yılmaz, especially after what happened in their last game against Sivasspor, where Rey Manaj stepped on his foot without even going for the ball. Shockingly, the referee only issued a yellow card — even after a VAR review. Sure, it was in the dying minutes of that match, and a red card wouldn’t have changed the outcome, but still, it would’ve been a matter of justice.
Osimhen then completed his brace in the 31st minute, this time assisted by Roland Sallai. Just two minutes later, Galatasaray conceded a cheap goal to Sivasspor.
Honestly, as much as Muslera is a club legend, he shouldn’t be Galatasaray’s first-choice goalkeeper next season. Sivasspor’s first shot on target was a goal. Thank God Günay is in goal for the cup — and hopefully, he won't be dropped for the cup final. What made it worse was that Sivasspor had only two shots on target — one was a goal and the other was disallowed in the second half due to a foul. A solid defense is great, but a reliable goalkeeper is even better.
The match ended 4–1, a great victory for Galatasaray as they maintained their top position in the league. Victor Osimhen also continues to lead the top scorer chart with 24 league goals.
