A tragic land dispute between two brothers in Ajumako Chiebir, a town located in Ghana’s Central Region, has ended in violence, leaving one hospitalized with serious injuries. George Paintsil, a local farmer, is currently receiving treatment at the Ajumako Government Hospital after suffering severe machete wounds to his head. According to eyewitness accounts, including that of Ex-Lance Corporal Daniel Mensah, the incident occurred directly on the farmland in question. Paintsil was found in a critical condition, covered in blood, after a heated argument with his elder brother, Daniel Enyan, turned violent. The altercation stemmed from a disagreement over the boundary lines separating their respective farmlands, an issue that has been a long-standing point of tension between the two. Despite previous discussions, this recent confrontation spiraled out of control, culminating in the violent machete attack.

In an interview with Adom News, Paintsil recalled that what began as a verbal disagreement quickly escalated when tempers flared. The two brothers reportedly exchanged harsh words over who rightfully owned a section of the land they both had been cultivating. Without warning, the elder brother allegedly resorted to violence, wielding a machete and striking George multiple times in the head. Witnesses who arrived shortly after the incident expressed shock at the brutal nature of the attack. Some residents noted that disputes over land ownership are not uncommon in the community, but rarely do they end in such bloodshed. The local community has been left shaken by the incident, especially because the dispute involved close family members. This unfortunate event has brought renewed attention to the growing concerns surrounding land ownership conflicts in rural areas.

Following the incident, Ex-Lance Corporal Mensah has urged both the family and the larger community to prioritize peaceful conflict resolution over violence. He emphasized the need for mediation through appropriate traditional or legal channels to settle land disputes, rather than allowing them to escalate into dangerous confrontations. Many community members have echoed his sentiments, calling on families with similar issues to seek guidance from chiefs, elders, or legal institutions. There is growing concern that if such matters are not addressed amicably and promptly, more families may experience similar tragedies. Meanwhile, local authorities are reportedly investigating the matter to determine the appropriate course of action against Daniel Enyan, who is believed to have fled the scene after the attack. As George Paintsil continues to recover, many are hoping this incident will serve as a cautionary tale and a wake-up call for stricter regulations and mediation structures concerning land disputes within the region. The community of Ajumako Chiebir remains hopeful that justice will be served and that such violent family feuds will be prevented in the future.
