Viktor Gyökeres choses Arsenal as Summer Move

The Sporting striker, Viktor Gyökeres has emerged as a top target for Arsenal, with fresh reports confirming that the Sporting CP star has made the Gunners his preferred destination this summer. Despite strong interest from Manchester United, is believed to be fully focused on sealing a move to Arsenal.

Viktor Gyökeres has made it clear that playing Champions League football and competing for major trophies are his decision. With Arsenal returning to Champions league competition and continuing to build under Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal have been busy assessing their striker options this window, having already held advanced talks with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško. That has opened the door for Gyökeres, who has been on their radar since his debut season with Sporting. He scored 43 goals across all competitions last season, making him one of the most finishers in Europe.

While Manchester United have also been tracking him, their interest in him now seems to be leaving. United were ready to go back if Arsenal hesitated, but Gyökeres’s clear preference for Arsenal has made them their hopes clear. United’s lack of Champions League football and their ongoing rebuild under Ruben Amorim have made them a less appealing option at this point in his career.

Sporting CP remain firm on their stance, as they want €84 million release clause in Gyökeres’s contract. Arsenal are trying to negotiate below that figure but could be forced to trigger the clause if they want to sign him.

Gyökeres, when recently asked about the transfer speculation, he said,

“false,” but confirmed he would “speak at the right time.”

Until then, negotiations continue behind the scenes.

For Arsenal fans, this is an exciting development. A striker of Gyökeres's physicality, work rate, and eye for goal could be exactly what the club needs to take that final step toward silverware. With Arteta to strengthen the attack, this summer could see Arsenal finally land their long-awaited No. 9.

Will Gyökeres join Arsenal?
