The University of Ghana is facing a fresh wave of COVID-19 infections, prompting immediate action from university authorities to safeguard the campus population. An official health alert released on June 23, 2025, confirmed that both suspected and confirmed cases have recently been identified on campus.

The university’s Health Services Directorate confirmed the uptick and stressed the urgency of the situation, though exact case numbers were not disclosed. Management is now calling on students, staff, and visitors to renew their commitment to preventive measures that had previously helped contain the virus.

In response, the university is urging everyone to wear face masks, especially in indoor areas such as lecture halls, offices, and libraries. Frequent handwashing, the use of hand sanitizers, and social distancing are also being strongly encouraged.

Departments and administrative units have been reminded to improve indoor ventilation by keeping windows and doors open during gatherings. These steps, according to the university, are essential for limiting airborne transmission of the virus.

As part of its renewed efforts, the institution has reactivated its COVID-19 Response Protocols. These include reintroducing screening points and triage systems at designated health centres. Individuals experiencing flu-like symptoms have been advised to remain off-campus and seek medical assistance promptly.

The Health Services Directorate has assured the community that it is monitoring the situation closely and will keep the campus informed. Helplines have also been provided for anyone needing medical advice or assistance.

Management has reiterated that although the national COVID-19 situation appears stable, localised outbreaks like this underscore the continued risk. The university is therefore appealing to all members of its community to act responsibly and adhere strictly to the updated safety guidelines.

This renewed advisory is a reminder that collective vigilance is key to keeping the campus safe. The University of Ghana is confident that with cooperation and strict compliance, further transmission can be prevented.
