The rejection of some doctors and dentists to accept postings in impoverished areas of the country has been regarded as upsetting by President Akufo-Addo.

According to him, the development is impeding the proper delivery of healthcare in these locations.

On Friday, Mr Akufo-Addo spoke at the 60th anniversary of the University of Ghana Medical School (UGMS), saying that although the government works to improve conditions in such places, medical personnel must uphold their pledge.

"The fact that doctors are refusing to work in certain locations is upsetting. I encourage all medical professionals to follow in the footsteps of your forefathers, who eagerly took postings in the early years, when the country's infrastructure was even worse than it is now.

As a result, I'm pleading with you to accept postings to certified regional and district hospitals, where your services are most required," he implored.

Despite the fact that "our medical schools have a good reputation and have been training good doctors and dentists who find work with ease in all parts of the world, the doctor-dentist population ratio in our country still remains unsatisfactory after 65 years of nationhood," President Akufo-Addo admitted that the country's doctor-dentist population ratio is currently poor.

"Necessary now, in our regions, districts, and impoverished communities, we don't have enough doctors, dentists, and healthcare workers with the right niche of skills and knowledge," says the report.

Mr. Akufo-Addo stated that he will finish the Agenda 111 hospital project before leaving office.

"It will take time for us to establish the Ghana we want," he added. Ghana has a well-developed road network, excellent schools throughout the country, and reliable energy.

"That is our generation's challenge." Let us work together to overcome this obstacle and create the Ghana we desire. No one else will step in and do it for us, so each of us must contribute to this endeavor."

In a related development, only 110 students from the country's roughly 720 senior high schools have been accepted into the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology's two traditional medical schools.
