Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the majority leader, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Caucus in Parliament has spies in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Caucus.
That, he claims, is how his side of the House was able to design and execute the passage of the E-levy bill into law without incident on Tuesday, March 24.
On the day of the voting, the Minority, which had been a stumbling block in the path of the Majority group in connection to the passage of the E-levy, was overrun by the Majority group.
They had accused the Majority of sneaking the E-levy measure onto the floor without it being scheduled for debate.
They had staged a walkout, enraged, in the hopes of getting some attention. However, the bill was passed without a quorum question, contrary to their expectations.
Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, speaking to JoyNews, disputed that the NDC was unaware that the bill would be addressed.
He claimed he had inside information about a meeting the Minority had planned taking place on the day of the election, referring to that Tuesday as "the day of the E-levy."
"They posted on their platform the day before that they were going to meet on the E-levy day, which was Tuesday, at 8:30," he stated.
He said that his side had information gatherers working in the area where he was able to view a message shared on the Minority's group page.
Oh, they claim to have intelligence in our midst, but we have counter-intelligence in our midst as well. As I previously stated, they enter our backyards to observe what is going on, and we do the same. We have counter-intelligence if they have intelligence," he stated.
Muntaka Mubarak, the Minority Chief Whip, had previously revealed that the NDC had also recruited unhappy MPs from the Majority side to pass them intelligence from the NPP's camp.
He believes that having spies among the opposing side's ranks is a necessary evil, especially because "knowledge is vital."
