Benito Owusu-Bio, Chairman of the Appiatse Reconstruction Implementation Team, has promised the residents of Appiatse that quick action is being made to relocate them to a temporary relocation site by May 1 of this year.

He stated that the action was made to protect the people from more hardship, especially when the rains began to fall.

Mr. Owusu-Bio, the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources in charge of Lands and Forestry, stated that 40 buildings owned by Future Global Resources (FGR) were being refurbished for immediate resettlement of victims of the January 20, 2022 explosion that ravaged the Appiatse community and killed 13 people.

"Funding has already been authorized for this work, and it is going diligently," stated the deputy minister in a statement.

Displacement

Following a deluge last Thursday, scores of Appiatse villagers were relocated and are presently living in tents.

After a downpour swept away part of the tents, they were left at the mercy of the elements.

Mr. Owusu-Bio stated that the Appiatse Reconstruction Implementation Team will do all possible to better the people's situation while standing in solidarity with them.

"I'd want to express my sincere worry about this issue on behalf of the government and the ministry. So far, the residents of Appiatse have shown incredible resilience as we work with them to restore their township. The impact of the heavy downpour, on the other hand, is an extra obstacle, and we want to urge them to be positive "He stated.
