Real Madrid are getting close to a deal for Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain target and AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Chelsea Target Aurelien Tchouameni in Discussions to Join Real Madrid
Monaco’s Main Man
Tchouameni has enjoyed another successful season in Ligue 1, helping Monaco finish third in the league for the second consecutive season. The defensive midfielder made 50 appearances and contributed with 5 goals and 3 assists in all competitions during the 2021/22 campaign.
The France international is highly coveted for his work rate and ability to push the ball up the pitch. He ranks in the 99th percentile for interceptions, as well as the 87th percentile for progressive passes and 85th percentile for attempted passes among midfielders.
At only 22 years of age, it’s easy to see why a talent like Tchouameni has become so in demand across the top clubs in Europe. Despite his relative youth, he has shown an ability to compete at a high-level, even earning eight caps so far for a France team that does not lack talented players in the midfield.
The Next Crop of Galacticos
Real Madrid added talented youngster Eduardo Camavinga from Rennes last summer and they look to be on the verge of adding another young French midfielder in Tchouameni.
The La Liga champions are fresh from winning their 14th European Cup win after the 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the Champions League final. In that final, Real’s midfield included a 36-year-old Luka Modric, who was partnered by two other players over the age of 30 in Casemiro (30) and Toni Kroos (32). While still extremely able players, the majority of their footballing career has likely past them by. However, with Camavinga and possibly Tchouameni in tow, Real would look to be set in the centre of the park should any of their experienced trio hang up their boots or move on to pastures new.
After narrowly missing out on Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid look set to instead complete the transfer of another talented French youngster for their next generation.
