Dr Tanko Dauda, a political science specialist, believes that proposals for the annulment of the Council of State's ex-gratia are reasonable.
Dr Tanko Dauda made the remark after Togbe Afede XIV, the Paramount Chief of the Asogli State, rejected GHS365,000 in ex-gratia for being a member of the Asogli State Council of State.
Togbe Afede XIV earned monthly salary and allowances as a member of the Council of State, according to the Agbogbomefia, and thus sees no need for the ex-gratia payment.
"I did not believe the money was intended to lure me in, as has been suggested." Everyone who sat on the Council of State, I suppose, received it. However, I believed that extra compensation was excessive for a brief, essentially part-time job for which I was paid monthly and had other benefits. As a result, I felt really uneasy about it," he explained.
In a statement, Togbe Afede XIV stated, "After weeks of attempting, I got counsel on how to repay incorrect payments to the State, and on March 4, 2022, I made the refund into the Controller & Accountant General's Department Suspense Account at the Bank of Ghana."
Following the uproar, a large number of people have demanded that ex-gratia payments to members of the Council of State be revoked.
Dr Tanko Dauda, speaking with Atinka FM's AM Drive presenter Kaakyire Ofori Ayim on the subject, indicated that there is no need to pay ex-gratia to members of the Council of State who earned monthly salary in the course of their duties.
Dr. Tanko Dauda urged the administration to get down at a table and reconsider the arrangement. "Going forward, I believe people advocating for the revocation of Council of State members' allowances are not far off the mark, since looking at where we are now, we have a lot of concerns and developmental challenges to address." As a result, awarding such large sums of money to certain groups of people after they have already been paid their wages is extremely difficult. We need to take a look at it as a country," Dr Tanko Dauda told Kaakyire Ofori Ayim.
