Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Odododiodio Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, says he is ready to face the arrest threat made by the Nii Odoi Kwao Family in Accra, one of the groups claiming ownership of the Achimota Forest lands.

The Nii Odoi Kwao has issued a threat of arrest in connection with the reclassification of sections of the Achimota Forest property.

According to the Odododiodio legislator, he has never dealt with the Nii Odoi Kwao Family and is prepared to be arrested by anybody.

The Nii Odoi Kwao Family demanded the arrest of the Odododiodio MP at a press conference on Tuesday, June 7, 2022.  Mr Vanderpuye previously asserted that he is a member of the Owoo family, who are thought to be the original proprietors of the Achimota Forest land before it was seized by the State many years ago.

"It occurred that there is a lawyer named John Adusei who stated he is speaking on behalf of the Owoo Family of Osu," the Odoi Kwao Family announced during a press conference in Accra.

"Secondly, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, a Member of Parliament from Accra's Odododiodoo Constituency, stated that he is a signatory to the petition for the property to be handed. We, the Odoi Kwao family, are claiming that the ostensibly Owoo Family of Osu, to whom the property was allegedly given, is not the real Owoo Family of Osu.

Scammers are criminals, and they must be apprehended and prosecuted."

In a media appearance on Wednesday, Mr Vanderpuye responded to the situation by saying, "I have no contact with him" (Nii Odoi Kwao Family). I'd never dealt with them before in my life, so when I heard that I'd be arrested, I was both surprised and amused."

"The individual speaking is an old person, and by training, I wouldn't want to engage them," the Odododiodoo legislator added, "but I am waiting for the arrest."

"Because they are the allodial proprietors of the property, the Owoo family has petitioned a number of administrations in this country concerning the Achimota land." Compensation was given... nevertheless, However, this does not apply to all lands. The family also requires a place to sleep, and as a member of the family, I am willing to help. The earth has never provided me with anything.

He wondered, "Where were the Odois when the Owoos petitioned the government?"

"My great grandma belonged to the Owoo clan...

Naa Ajiso is an alias. She married Nii Owoo and had a lot of land and mansions in Accra...she was a lady, but she was extremely wealthy and hardworking. She donated a lot of land to the public."

"There's one right now in Pokuase where we're fighting the Ghana Police Service and we're going back to renegotiate or seize our land," he says.
