Chelsea midfield dynamo N'Golo Kanté had wanted to represent Mali at international level before a last minute swoop from France. The French-born midfielder had considered playing for Mali, the country of his parents, but he later had a change of mind following an advice from former Leicester City assistant boss, Steve Walsh. Kanté revealed his intentions of playing for Mali to Steve Walsh. I want to play for Mali, my parents are from Mali,” Kante said to Walsh, according to The Sunday Times.
Steve Walsh managed to convince the then Leicester City star to pick France over Mali because they had the better chance of winning major tournament.
