According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur is contemplating a £17 million offer for the services of Barcelona attacker Memphis Depay during the current transfer window.

Depay, whose contract at Camp Nou is up this summer, has been linked to a move away from Barcelona. The player is anticipated to be sold, since Blaugrana head coach Xavi Hernandez is revamping his frontline and the team is in desperate need of cash.

The player has been chosen by Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte to add to his attack, according to journalist Ekrem Konur (via Fichajes). Depay moved from Olympique Lyon to Barcelona last summer on a free transfer. Last season, the 28-year-old played in 38 games across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and dishing out two assists. Prior to then, he had played in 40 games for Lyon in the 2020–21 season, contributing 34 goals.

The Fichajes story also said that Conte had chased the Dutchman while he was at Inter Milan because of his longtime admiration for him.

Depay, though, reportedly told SPORT that he has no interest in leaving Barcelona this summer.

The Blaugrana signed forward Raphinha, midfielder Franck Kessie, and defender Andreas Christensen earlier this month. The team is currently nearing completion of a €50 million agreement to acquire Robert Lewandowski, the star player for Bayern Munich (via Fabrizio Romano). According to MARCA, Barcelona is also nearing completion on the contracts of Chelsea's Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso.

How Paul Merson feels about Tottenham Hotspur's current summer transfer window

Paul Merson, a former player and pundit, reviewed the north London club's summer transfer activity in a post for Sportskeeda.

Tottenham has so far added five players. They are Clement Lenglet, Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, and Richarlison. Fabrizio Romano, a transfer analyst, reports that they are also planning to sign Djed Spence.

Merson praised Spurs' transfer window in his article "Tottenham has enjoyed a successful transfer period thus far. Richarlison isn't really my cup of tea, and I'd play Kulusevski in front of him. Richarlison fits the bill in that regard because they are in the UEFA Champions League and still have games left to play this year."

He added:

"They made an incredible acquisition in Yves Bissouma. He controlled the Brighton midfield, but they weren't nearly as reliable as Spurs. Ivan Perisic has my utmost admiration. He puts in a lot of hard effort and is a top-tier player. He is a player that Antonio Conte is familiar with, and because he works hard, the supporters will adore him."

The 2022–23 Premier League season will begin on August 6 with Tottenham Hotspur hosting Southampton.
