According to Sport, Chelsea's interest in Frenkie de
Jong has increased today, with the Blues willing to pay Barcelona's asking
price of €80 million. The Dutch midfielder has been heavily linked with a move
to Manchester United this summer, with many claiming a deal was reached, but De
Jong's future remains dependent on an agreement with his current club over
unpaid wages.
There's still no way out of this mess, but Sport
reports that Chelsea has "entered hard onto the scene" for him and
will pay Barcelona's asking price. In other Camp Nou news, centre-back Samuel
Umtiti and forward Martin Braithwaite have been told they will not be given
squad numbers for the upcoming season in an effort to reinforce the fact that
they are unwanted and must find new clubs.
Barcelona
want Bernardo Silva to replace Frenkie de Jong
Barcelona president Joan Laporta set out this summer
with the goal of providing Xavi Hernandez with the best possible squad,
according to Sport, and one of the final pieces of the jigsaw will be the
signing of Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva. According to the report,
the Portuguese attacking midfielder will cost "no more than €70
million," implying that they will be able to finance the deal if they can
offload Frenkie de Jong as planned. Right now, the De Jong transfer is expected
to bring in €80 million, though Barcelona has yet to agree on any terms
regarding unpaid wages with their player. According to the latest reports in
Spain, Chelsea are interested in him, but Manchester United have also been
linked all summer.
Dean
Henderson hits out at "criminal" broken promises at Manchester United
On-loan Dean Henderson, goalkeeper for Nottingham
Forest, believes Manchester United's treatment of him last season was
"criminal." The 25-year-old, who joined the newly-promoted side for
their first top-flight season since 1999, claims the Old Trafford hierarchy
told him 12 months ago that he would be first-choice for last season.
However, when an injury ended his Euro 2020
participation with England and long COVID delayed his availability for the new
season, David De Gea retained his place as Manchester United's number one.
Henderson was frustrated as a result of only playing three times in three
different competitions. To be honest, it's probably been the most difficult 12
months of my career, "he admitted to talkSPORT. "When I got out of
the Euros squad, I said to myself, 'You're coming.'"
"I got Covid-19 and returned, so I should have
remained number one, but nobody followed through on what they had told
me." It was frustrating because I had turned down so many good loans for
that reason last summer, and they would not let me go. "I was fuming
because sitting there for a year is criminal at my age." I told the
hierarchy that I needed to be playing football and that they should let me go,
and I was almost out the door when the manager (Erik ten Hag) came in. I
haven't heard from him since."
