Asante Kotoko received congratulations from Her Excellency Madam Christine Churcher, Ghana's ambassador to Benin, after their 1-0 victory over RC Kadiogo on Monday in the first leg of the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

Prior to the return leg on Sunday in Kumasi, a crucial away victory at the General Kerekou Stadium in Cotonou, Benin was achieved thanks to a late goal by Isaac Oppong.

Oppong's goal ensured the Kumasi-based team returned to Ghana with a victory just minutes before the game's end after the Porcupine Warriors had wasted numerous opportunities.

"Congratulations. You're not as excited as I am. I feel that until the last whistle blows, you cannot declare that your side has not won, therefore when it does, I give up "After the game, Churcher stated.

However, I was confident that you would score even if there were only one or two minutes left before the final siren.

"You did a good job. A triumph for the nation. Not Kotoko, but Ghana has emerged victorious. I hope you'll do a good job on your schoolwork when you get home."

You performed well, but allow me to offer this observation: I've found that in soccer, the victors are frequently the ones who seize their opportunities when they present themselves.

"I'm here to support you. Improve your ability to score goals and ensure that you take advantage of all of your opportunities to score goals. God be with you as you travel. May you all be more unified than ever."

To prepare for the second leg, which is set for Sunday, September 18, at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kotoko will fly back to Ghana.

In the next round of the competition, the victor of the two-legged tie will play the winner of the match between Gaborone United Sporting Club and AS Vita Club of the DR Congo.
