Mustapha Ussif, the Minister of Youth and Sports for the Republic of Ghana, thinks it's critical for Ghana and Qatar to improve their collaboration in the field of sports and youth.
Ussif said he wants to use the 2022 FIFA World Cup to strengthen relations between the two nations, which have already signed a memorandum of understanding between the Ministries of Youth and Sports in Ghana and Qatar, in an exclusive interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the sidelines of his official visit to the nation.
Mustapha Ussif was briefed on the sports facilities available during his visit to Qatar and lauded the country for its preparations and readiness for the international showcase. He emphasized how "great" and "outstanding" the facilities were.
He acknowledged that the preparations for the competition had not been simple and thanked HH the Amir for his cordial welcome.
Regarding areas of collaboration between Ghana and Qatar, he stated that Qatar Charity is assisting Ghana by constructing schools, hospitals, and wells for those in need of water. He expects that as part of the World Cup legacy project, Qatar would also provide benefits to the country in terms of sports infrastructure.
Ussif promised Qatar that the Black Stars team will be delighted to visit with a strategy in place to compete in World Cup group H. On September 23 and 27, respectively, they will face Brazil and Nicaragua in friendly matches.
Ussif was asked about the goals for the nation at the World Cup and responded, "Only God knows what will happen if we pass the group stage.
He continued by saying that sports is one method he plans to provide young people in Ghana chances.
"Africa has a large proportion of young people, which is both a fantastic potential and a great challenge. In Ghana, 70% of the population is under 25, thus we must give them opportunities. One approach to providing chances for young people is through sports.
In order for Ghana to be able to utilize the potential of its youth, His Excellency stressed the need for help from Africa and Qatar. He expressed his desire that Qatar will promote the growth of sports around the world, with a focus on Ghana.
