The Savelugu rice processing facility has been officially opened by John Kwadwo Alan Kyerematen, Minister of Trade and Industry.
A farmer-owned agroindustrial processing facility, the rice factory is a One District One Factory common user facility. It was founded with seed finance from the Ministry of Trade and Industry under the rural entrepreneurship initiative.
With its cutting-edge machinery, the Savelugu rice processing business has the ability to produce between 1.5 and 28 tonnes of processed rice every hour.
The cost of the plant, including the price of the structure, processing, and equipment, is estimated to be around GH7,375,000. The Savelugu Technology Solution Center was further inaugurated by the Minister.
Beginning in January 2020 and ending in July 2021 was the Savelugu Rice Processing Factory. One of five factories constructed nationwide is the rice factory.
The Minister stated that the plant will increase the number of business prospects in the region while speaking during a ceremony to commission the facility. According to him, it would also enable farmers to more easily process their rice and expand rice farming.
Because so many additional goods may be made from the processing of rice, such as chicken feed, bear wine, and other drinks, he said, "Our commissioning will also expand industrial output in this town."
Mr. Kyeremateng urged the populace to benefit from the factory, claiming it is an ideal illustration of communal ownership of enterprise.
This is a new model for business growth in our nation that enables the people to control their enterprises, the Minister said. "This plant is owned by about 730 farmers, 70% owned by these farmers, 10% by traditional authority, 10% by the assembly, and last 10% by the government."
The commissioning of the two projects, according to Northern Regional Minister Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu, would act as a spur for the region's residents to experience growth.
As the majority of the population is engaged in agricultural directly or indirectly, he asserted that "this facility has a direct link with agriculture, which is the backbone of the region. There would be no progress and development in this region without paying attention to agriculture."
Kwesi Arthur, the executive director of the Rural Enterprise Project, stated that the establishment of these facilities was made feasible by Savelugu's strategic location for the Ministry of Trade and Industry. He said that the two facilities will increase regional productivity.
