Because of his verbal abuse of a nurse at the Manhyia Government Hospital, Alex Opoku Mensah, the director of the National Service Secretariat (NSS) in the Ashanti Region, has been suspended for two months without pay.

Following an emergency meeting in response to the event in November 2022, the secretariat provisionally suspended him on December 1, 2022, to allow for inquiries.

However, a recent instruction from the NSS informs that the official has been placed on paid leave for a period of two months. The suspension is effective right away.

This occurred when a committee finished its task and sent in its report to Management. According to reports, Mr. Opoku-Mensah verbally assaulted a nurse over how the medical professional interacted with his daughter, who works as a doctor at the hospital.

Because the medication the house officer had ordered wasn't available at the pharmacy, the nurse had to contact him to change a prescription.

The house officer reportedly objected because of how the nurse spoke to her, according to the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Hussein.

When the house officer called the nurse on the phone, Dr. Hussein said that she just so happened to be with her father. As a result, Mr. Opoku-Mensah was furious about the situation and went with his daughter to the hospital.

Since then, Alex Opoku-Mensah has apologised for his behaviour and says he is not known to be aggressive or abusive.

You are quite frustrated, Mr. Opoku-Mensah stated in an audio clip that has gone viral.

Who was the dog's breeder?

She is someone you envy and don't respect. Are you a physician? So who are you? Are you insane? Do you own the hospital? Stupid moron, you are a useless nurse, and you are a useless lady. Do you recognise me? I am the National Service Scheme's regional director. Some of you are my subordinates.

However, the scheme's headquarters would have none of that because the scenario caused a stir among several health organisations.

The most recent development also calls on the troubled Ashanti Regional chief to apologise to the NSS for tarnishing its reputation with his deed.
