Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the ranking member of the Parliament's Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, disagrees with the Special Prosecutors' assessment of the nation's capacity to combat corruption.

Are we prepared for the battle against corruption? the Special Prosecutor questioned in a presentation on Newsfile on Saturday. From my vantage point, I don't believe we are.

He questioned, "We demand so much from the institutions battling corruption, but are we all ready?"

Mr. Agyebeng added that the reason he felt forced to pose this query is that many individuals who observe acts of corruption are reluctant to report them.

In response to Kissi Agyebeng's statement, Mr. Dafeamekpor told JoyNews that he is not satisfied with Kissi Agyebeng's comment given the history of victories attained by the Office of the Special Prosecutor thus far.

Concerning the interview he gave to your network last Saturday, I am really concerned. That it appears that we are not prepared to combat corruption.

On Wednesday's lunchtime news on JOY FM, he said, "Expressing about the modicum of victories that he's chalked, but if he is speaking it plainly that it looks the system and the authorities that we have are not encouraging him to combat corruption, then we are in for a run for our money."

The South Dayi MP said Ghana is not on track in terms of resources allotted with the Office of the Special Prosecutor, while praising the Special Prosecutor for the work done so far on charges of corruption brought before his office.

"I believe he has made some progress, and I believe we should support him."

At this time, the Special Prosecutor is looking into at least 132 suspected cases of corruption and crimes linked to it that are in various stages of review.

Charles Adu Boahen, a former Minister of State in the Finance Ministry, is a party to some of the cases; President Akufo-Addo sent his case for inquiry as a result of Tiger Eye PI's documentary Galamsey Economy; a look at the estate of the late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, nicknamed Sir John, leader of the New Patriotic Party, which is said to contain the contentious bequest of public lands at the Achimota Forest in Accra to his family members.

The case of Akonta Mining Limited, a mining company allegedly owned by Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), and its suspected participation in unlawful mining at a barred forest reserve are also scheduled for investigation.
