Albert Dwumfour, the president of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has advised recent tertiary graduates to maximise their use of time to boost productivity.
"As we all strive for greatness in our individual domains, we must be extremely methodical and realistic in all we do. Yes, this is important as you get ready for the oversaturated work market, where having specific talents and attributes is essential to surviving. This means that you have to be willing to stand out.
At the GH Schools' graduation ceremony last Saturday, Mr. Dwumfour gave a speech on the subject of "Pragmatism, Productivity, and Progress: Keys to Personal and Professional Development."
"It is imperative that you use your time wisely to boost productivity, especially during these challenging economic times, as fresh graduates who are preparing for the job market (i.e., you are the newest grads in town). As a result of people pretending to work when they are not, productivity is severely low in many firms in our area. They spend so much time on social media that they overlook the concept of wasted time, Mr. Dwumfour continued.
"Therefore, I would advise that we all make intelligent use of our time in order to raise productivity at our own jobs. When that happens, we may ask our bosses for a raise in pay," he stated.
Leslie Listowel, rector and chief executive officer of GH Schools, and his hardworking staff were lauded by Mr. Dwumfour for their major contributions to the development of the country's educational system and, more crucially, to the expansion of the media.
Mr. Dwumfour said, "GH Schools has developed and nurtured talent throughout the years, and they deserve appreciation for this.
He added, "As a former Managing Director of Atinka Media Village, which includes Atinka TV, Atinka FM, Atinkaonline, Agyekwa FM in Kumasi, and Ahoto FM in Takoradi, I can attest that interns from GH Schools consistently outperformed expectations, and some were eventually hired." He went on to commend GH schools for consistently supplying high-quality products to the market.
Because GH schools provide high-quality education at reasonable costs, he added, "I am also certain that the present generation of graduates will flourish wherever they find themselves on the labour market."
