Dr. Beatrice Wiafe-Addai, president of Breast Care International, has voiced concern about nursing and midwifery schools emphasizing theory over practical skills, particularly in breast cancer cases.

To make their work simpler once they have finished, Dr. Wiafe-Addai advises that students should become proficient in both theory and practical abilities while they are in school.

She suggests that nursing and midwifery institutions should take measures to engage with other private sector organizations like Breast Care International since they lack the essential equipment so that their students may obtain practical experience.

This, according to her, will aid the students in understanding, among other things, how to do a clinical breast examination in practice.

There is no screening mammography available in any African nation. The clinical breast examination is something on which we may rely. Our nurses, who will soon be working as front-line healthcare providers, need to be trained. The proper technique for doing a clinical breast examination must be taught to them, she insisted.

She made an appeal to people and charitable groups to provide medical equipment to nursing training institutes to enhance their students' practical knowledge.

After a breast cancer awareness program, Dr. Wiafe-Addai addressed the media at the Kwadaso SDA Nursing and Midwifery Training College branch in Barekese.

Men and women should refrain from using skin whitening creams since they have the propensity to cause breast cancer, she added.

According to her, the Ghanaian study on breast cells found that bleaching chemicals are one of the main risk factors that might work as a recipe for breast cancer.

Breast Care International has made a significant contribution to raising breast cancer awareness in the country, according to Daniel Atta Tuffour, principal of the Kwadaso SDA Nursing and Midwifery Training College.

He claimed that when the students get ready to serve their communities, breast cancer education is important to them.

Mr. Tuffour said that although the students are taught about malignancies, the college does not have the necessary tools to assist them to grasp the illness.
