Police Detain Important Suspects in the Soldier Murder in the Ashaiman Case
In a statement, Ghana police stated that the deceased military officer's main suspect had been apprehended.
The police have detained the main suspects in the murder of Imoro Sherrif, a soldier who was discovered dead at Taifa Ashiaman on March 4, 2023, following a week of persistent intelligence-led operations. police stated in a statement.
The military sweep of March 7
In an operation that saw some troops approach the town in vehicles with an armored car and a helicopter hovering over the town, dozens of military officers attacked Ashaiman.
The drill is reportedly in retaliation to the brutal death of a young soldier, Trooper Sherrif Imoro, on March 4, 2023, by some unnamed individuals.
Videos of the invasion that were posted on social media show different sorts of violence being committed against locals by the irate cops, some of whom were severely beaten.
The Ghana Armed Forces acknowledged in a statement issued in the early hours of March 8 that they had authorized the raid that resulted in the arrest of 184 people and the discovery of suspected illicit narcotics.
They admitted in the aforementioned statement that there may have been excesses that led to the swoop, but they made no apologies or promises to look into this.
On March 8, the first 150 suspects were freed, and on March 9, Fix The Country movement leader Oliver Barker-Vormawor announced the release of the final 34 prisoners.
Authorities question the slain soldier's girlfriend.
The distraught girlfriend of the deceased military officer who was killed at Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region has been questioned by the Ashaiman Police.
Imoro Sherrif, a 22-year-old trumpet player for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) band, was interrogated to determine how and why he was assassinated.
She was invited, interrogated, and then released by the police after posting a self-recognized bond, according to DGN Online.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashaiman, Ernest Henry Norgbey, confirmed the questioning and added to 3Fm's report by saying, "So far, just one individual has been invited for questioningthe alleged girlfriend of the dead.
"According to the Police, it seemed the girl had also been heartbroken over the entire situation. The guy had been with her all night long until 2 am when they split, and she was devastated when she woke up the next morning and saw the problems on social media.
So far as we know, the only individual who was questioned was this one. Hence, we are anticipating the possibility of an arrest.
On Thursday, March 9, Imoro Sherrif was buried in Accra's Military Cemetery at Burma Camp.
On March 4, Imoro Sherrif was brutally killed.
He was discovered in Ashaiman in a pool of blood, and it is believed that he had been stabbed to death.
On Tuesday, the Military High Command gave the go-ahead for a hunt for the criminals lead by intelligence.
Many civilians complained of being treated brutally during the operation, which resulted in the arrest of 184 people, the release of 150 of them, and the transfer of 34 of them to the Ghana Police Service via the Military Police for further investigation.
