The public has been cautioned by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) about a phony job site that is now being advertised on social media. Unwary people are being prompted to pay recruiting fees through a portal that falsely purports to be for the 2023 Census recruitment drive.
The GSS claims that the dishonest people behind the bogus webpage are duping and luring members of the public into paying them money in return for fake jobs.
In a news statement published today, the GSS made it clear that it has not started a recruiting effort for the 2023 Census, since it is only necessary to conduct a population and housing census every 10 years. It is expected that the following census will take place in 2031.
In its place, the GSS has opened a recruiting website for the next IBES Phase 1 and Round 8 of the Ghana Living Standards Survey (GLSS8).
The Service made it clear that nobody or any agency had been given permission to carry out any recruiting campaign on its behalf.
The GSS further advised the general public to exercise caution and only conduct business with parties through the service's approved channels. Anyone discovered conducting fraudulent recruiting schemes using the service's name would be turned over to the Ghana Police Service for prosecution.
The management of the Ghana Statistical Service thanked the public for its unwavering support and cooperation and urged them to report any individual who has used the helplines and email addresses listed in the press release to solicit money from them with the goal of getting them jobs with the GSS. It has come to the attention of the management of the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) that some unscrupulous persons have launched a fake portal captioned, “GHANA STATISTICAL SERVICE RECRUITMENT PORTAL 2023: Approved Application Portal For The Ghana Statistical Service Job Recruitment of New Staffs for the 2023 Census.”
According to reports, these dishonest people are misleading or enticing unwary members of the public to pay recruiting fees to them by advertising the aforementioned fraudulent recruitment portal on social media.
The general public is officially advised that GSS has not started any recruiting campaigns for any censuses scheduled for 2023. The fact that population and housing censuses are decennial—conducted every 10 years—should be noted.
As a consequence, given that the most recent Population and Housing Census (PHC) was completed in 2021, the following census is predicted to be carried out in 2031.
