Sammy Binfoh Dakwa, a potential New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Adansi Asokwa in 2020, has urged Ghanaians, especially those in Adansi Asokwa, to support Kobina Tahir Hammond, the area's member of parliament, in his new position as minister of trade and industry.


The Adansi Asokwa lawmaker was confirmed by Parliament as the Minister of Trade and Industry on Friday, March 24, 2023, and is now awaiting President Akufo-oath Addo's office. He was confirmed together with five other individuals that the President had selected to take the position of certain ministers who left the NPP cabinet for a variety of reasons, including personal reasons and to pursue presidential aspirations.



Bryan Acheampong, the minister of food and agriculture, and Stephen Asamoah Boateng, the minister of chieftaincy and religious affairs, are two other individuals who were confirmed on Friday.


The remaining three are Dr. Stephen Amoah, Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industry, Osei Bonsu Amoah, Minister of State for Local Government, and Dr. Mohamed Anim Adam, Minister of State for Finance.


Honorable son

In a statement made public over the weekend, Mr. Binfoh referred to Mr. Hammond as the "illustrious son of Adansi Asokwa" and said that "Mr. Hammond has over the years dedicated his life to the service and wellbeing of Ghana, having been in parliament for approximately 22 years and serving in various capacities in different sectors of the country, including as a Deputy Minister of Energy.

"We wish him the best of success in his new post," he stated, "knowing that his achievement during the short term that he would serve in government will go a long way to brighten the NPP's chances of 'Breaking the 8'."


In addition, Mr. Binfoh took the opportunity to congratulate all the other Ministers who had received confirmation from Parliament the same evening.
