At Moree in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) area, a tidal wave attack has destroyed more than three structures and left more than 30 people homeless.

Days later, the locals are still living in terror of their houses being potentially swept away by the rushing water, and they have vowed to stage a protest to air their frustrations with the administration.

A visit by the GhanaWeb to the region revealed a troubling scenario, as the residents were pounded by tidal surges that eroded the ridges and flattened the sand dunes, leaving no shoreline and allowing the sea to freely flow in and out of dwellings. This meant that they were virtually living next to the sea.

Other locals who talked stated they were always terrified since they had no idea when or how the sea would strike.

Those neighbors who talked stated they were always terrified that the sea would strike them in the end by destroying their remaining dwellings.

"We are always afraid. Along with stealing our possessions, the sea also causes our structures to crumble.

"To protect our lives and the lives of our children, we have chosen to relocate and seek sanctuary someplace," they said.

They bemoaned the fact that their repeated requests for government action on marine defense had been ineffective and urged all politicians to stay away from the neighborhood during elections for fear of inciting their wrath.

According to the locals, the building of the sea defense would protect the neighborhood from the ravaging effects of tidal surges, which pose a continual threat to people's lives and property.
